Vic: Library industrial action escalates
Industrial action at the State Library of Victoria is set to escalate this week, afterstaff and management failed to resolve a pay dispute.
Staff introduced work bans last Friday and the Community and Public Sector Union saysthere'll be further action if the library's offer of a three per cent wage rise isn'tincreased.
The union wants a six per cent pay increase and a review of career structure.
The new industrial action follows a 48 hour strike by library staff last Monday and Tuesday.
CPSU state secretary KAREN BATT says work bans will be escalated in stages across allfacets of the library.
The parties are due to meet on Thursday in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
Ms BATT says the library isn't acting in good faith or serious about negotiations becausemanagement has applied for conciliation -- rather than give the AIRC the power to arbitrate.
State Library acting chief executive SHANE CARMODY says the library wants to settlethe dispute as soon as possible.
