NSW: National Road toll reaches 35
SYDNEY, Dec 28 AAP - The holiday road toll continued to climb tonight, with 35 people
having died on Australian roads in one week.
The latest fatality came in New South Wales, when a 59-year-old woman from Bundeena
in Sydney's south died of a suspected heart attack.
Her car hit a parked car and ran into bushes when she was driving in her home suburb.
Her death brought the holiday road toll for New South Wales to 22.
Also in the state, police today charged 54 drivers with drink driving and issued 2,403
speeding tickets.
Earlier today, a 31-year-old man died in a three-vehicle crash in wet weather on the
Sunshine Coast hinterland, bringing Queensland's holiday road toll to five.
Since the toll period began at midnight (AEDT) last Thursday, South Australia has had
three deaths, Western Australia and Victoria two each, and the ACT one.
Tasmania and the Northern Territory have reported no road deaths during the toll period.
(Eds: National road toll figures are for the period 0001 December 22 to 2359 January
