Qld: Federal govt drought package needs review says AgForce = 2

Queensland Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk said the package was good newsfor the shires on the Federal Government's list.

He said a glaring omission was the Stanthorpe shire - Queensland's main grape growingregion and a main producer of stone fruit.

"What the (federal package) means is if you've suffered from rainfall deficienciesbetween (March and November 2002), you'd immediately be eligible for interim income support,"

Mr Palaszczuk told journalists today.

"So it's very good news for the 52 shires in Queensland that are currently on this list.

"Unfortunately, we don't know how the federal government arrived at these shires becausea number of our shires in Queensland that are drought-declared such as Stanthorpe, havenot been included in this list that the federal government has put out."

Mr Palaszczuk said an audit would be conducted immediately to determine if additionalshires were eligible for the federal package.
