NSW:Police 'strong case' against bomb suspect

A 50-year-old Australian man arrested in the United States will face court tonight
over the MADELEINE PULVER bomb hoax.

PAUL "DOUG" PETERS was arrested by the FBI at his ex-wife's property in Louisville,
Kentucky, about 5.30am Sydney time.

He's being held on provisional warrants for aggravated break and enter, committing
a felony and kidnapping offences.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner DAVE HUDSON has told a news conference there's a
chain of circumstantial evidence against the man, who has some links to the PULVER family.

He's believed to be the only suspect in the attack by an balaclava-clad intruder on
18-year-old MADELEINE in her luxury Mosman home on Sydney's lower north shore.

Vic: Teenage girl killed in car smash

MELBOURNE, Feb 19 AAP - A teenage girl has been killed in a car accident in Melbourne's
north-west overnight.

Police say the girl, who was about 15, was a rear seat passenger in a vehicle which
ran off the Tullamarine Freeway about 10pm (AEDT).

"The driver ran off the road, hit a sign then trees," Senior Constable Wayne Wilson said today.

"There were four people in the car at the time of the crash."

Three other people in the car - a male driver and two female passengers all aged about
20 - were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred in a city-bound lane of the freeway, and it blocked lanes between
the airport and Mickleham Road for several hours.

The crash took Victoria's road toll to 40, down from 50 at the same time last year.

LACK OF SEWING SKILLS BECOMES A NEEDLING ISSUE
Byline: Bill Ervolino E-mail: ervolino@northjersey.com
Section: BETTER LIVING
Type: News

Tell me something: How are you with a needle and thread?

Brilliant? Awful? Or, just sew-sew?
If there's anything I like about this time of year, it's sweaters.

Brown ones. Gray ones. And, especially my new blue one, which I picked up last weekend -- 50 percent off! So many people have complimented it, I may live in it until Memorial Day.

Sweaters are neat-looking, slimming and, best of all, they cover up the sad truth that some of my dress shirts are missing buttons.

Three years ago, I spent four hours trying to sew a button back onto a rather expensive white shirt. I ran the needle and thread through this hole; then, that hole; then, up and down and all around, before tying it, knotting it ...

I don't think astronauts spend that much time fixing heat shields on the space shuttle.

When I was finally done, I put on the shirt, the button popped off and I kicked a leg off my coffee table.

(Amusingly, I fixed the table leg in 12 minutes.)

As you may recall, in Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn," the mischievous Huck disguised himself as a girl -- I'm pretty sure this was RuPaul's favorite novel -- a little deception he almost got away with, until the woman he was staying with saw him TRY to thread a needle.

It's something I can't do, either. And my embarrassing lack of ability in this area makes me feel lower than low, which may be appropriate, since the word "sewer" (a person who sews) is spelled the same as "sewer" (an artificial conduit used to carry waste water and garbage).

Because of this deficiency, I was thrilled a couple of years ago when I heard about "self-threading needles." In fact, I immediately went out and purchased several.

Unfortunately, I found them just as complicated as the regular ones. (To me, a self-threading needle should work thusly: You put the needle and thread on the counter, you go have a beer, you come back and everything is done.)

Apparently, growing up in a sewing environment -- my mother sewed constantly -- didn't help me in the least. To make extra money when I was a kid, she did "home work," which involved running rectangular sheets of some shiny, silky fabric through her enormous 800-pound machine in the basement. Every night.

Humm ... humm ... humm...

I fancifully assumed my mother was making haute couture dresses for the fashion-forward Jackie Kennedy. But, no. Those long shiny rectangles were fabric panels used to make umbrellas.

I dealt with this, though, lying to friends that my mother made snazzy umbrellas for Jackie, Lady Bird, Audrey Hepburn and The Penguin.

In those days, family conversations over dinner often revolved around faulty hand wheels and troublesome bobbins. But since we were boys, my brother and I were never taught the first thing about this particular craft.

With that in mind, I was intrigued last weekend when I caught the daily special on a home shopping network: A computerized "state of the art" sewing machine for just under $300.

During the broadcast, several people who already owned the machine called in to praise it. And they were all ... men.

This did not seem to surprise the on-air presenter, sewing expert Darlene Cahill, who, a few years ago, was a contestant on the DIY reality show competition "Wickedly Perfect." On that show, Cahill easily won the sewing challenges but she also excelled (to her own surprise) at building a wooden picnic table from scratch.

As Cahill later explained, building the table was just like sewing, except that she used wood instead of fabric.

If the Internet is any indication, plenty of men made this connection years ago. There are all sorts of online articles about men who sew, most of which stress that, traditionally, tailors were men.

One article, on the craft site helium. com, proclaims, "Men who sew are sexy! And, the better he sews, the sexier he lives!"

Wow. Who knew?

Still, sexy as I am, I can't sew a button on a shirt without bloodying the carpet.

Nowadays, most women I know don't sew, either. And I suspect those who do would glare at me if I tried recruiting them for button duty.

So naturally, I was fascinated by that fancy, pricey button- fixer I saw on TV last week. I even picked up the phone to order one, telling myself (before changing my mind), that "For just $300 I could get ..."

Yes! Six sweaters.

FED:Coalition MPs set for return in Qld

FED:Coalition MPs set for return in Qld

CANBERRA, Aug 21 AAP - A host of former Liberal MPs look set to return to the parliament
as the coalition races ahead of Labor in a swag of crucial marginal seats in Queensland.

In early counting, the signs weren't good for Labor as several seats looked likely
to fall to the coalition.

In Brisbane, Labor's Arch Bevis was facing a nailbiting contest against the LNP's Teresa Gambaro.

On a two-party preferred basis - with 9.68 per cent of the voted counted - Mr Bevis
was behind of 49.12 per cent of the vote.

In the seat of Leichhardt, former Liberal MP Warren Entsch was expected to take the
seat back from Labor's Jim Turnour.

With 4.75 per cent of the two-party preferred vote counted, Mr Entsch had 58.41 per
cent of the vote, a swing of more than 12 per cent.

Labor's Kerry Rea was also behind in the seat of Bonner, where she was facing a swing
against her of seven per cent.

With seven per cent of the two party preferred vote counted, she was on 47.41 per cent
of the vote.

She is up against the LNP's Ross Vasta, who lost the seat in 2007.

Nationally, Labor was showing a swing against it of three per cent on 47.03 per cent,
after the distribution of preferences.

The coalition was on 53.97 per cent of the vote.

A swag of marginals in western Sydney and Queensland expected to determine the outcome
of the extremely tight poll.

The latest Newspoll, published in the Australian newspaper, had Labor with 50.2 per
cent support against 49.8 per cent to the coalition after the distribution of preferences.

The coalition needs 17 Labor seats to win the election by garnering a uniform swing
of 2.3 per cent across the country. But the government can lose its absolute majority
if it loses 13 seats.

Vic: Brumby rejects calls for fire services to merge

GEELONG, April 14 AAP - Victorian Premier John Brumby has rejected union calls to merge
the state's metropolitan and country fire agencies.

United Firefighters Union members are rallying to have the Country Fire Authority (CFA)
and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) unite, saying it would achieve better coordination
and response times.

But Mr Brumby, who is a CFA volunteer, said the dual services had served Victoria well
and would continue to do so in the future.

"I've not supported a single provider, that's never been my view," he told reporters
on Wednesday.

"We've got one of the great volunteer firefighting services in the world, it's called
the CFA and I don't want to lose that, you've got more than 50,000 volunteers who are
a part of it.

"I've never been a supporter of a single fire service, however, if these are matters
the (bushfires royal) commission will examine ... we will look carefully at all of their
recommendations," Mr Brumby said.

WA: Smith to raise whaling with Nakasone

PERTH, Dec 10 AAP - Japan's trade in commercial whaling will be raised at a meeting
of Australian and Japanese defence and foreign affairs ministers tomorrow, the federal
government says.

Japanese whalers are on their way to Antarctic waters, while the militant Sea Shepherd
anti-whaling group is sending its own vessel from Australia.

Foreign Minister Stephen Smith and Environment Minister Peter Garrett last week called
for restraint against the use of violence by any party.

"I will raise it formally with foreign minister (Hirofume) Nakasone, make the point
that we are disappointed that the Japanese whaling fleet has left ... for the Great Southern
Ocean," Mr Smith said in Perth on Wednesday.

"We ... want to see a cessation of Japanese whaling in the Great Southern Ocean and
we continue to work very strongly in a diplomatic sense, both bilaterally but also multilaterally
through the International Whaling Commission to persuade Japan to bring their lethal whaling
program to an end."

"So I'll make all of those points to foreign minister Nakasone. I met (him) in Lima
in the course of the APEC foreign minister and trade ministers meetings ... and made those
points and I'll repeat those points.

"And, also make the point to him that we regard our envoy Sandy Hollway as doing very good work."

Research and Markets Offers Report on '2007 Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband in Asia -- Myanmar and Thailand'

WIRELESS NEWS-September 7, 2007-Research and Markets Offers Report on '2007 Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband in Asia -- Myanmar and Thailand' (C)2007 10Meters - http://www.10meters.com

Research and Markets has announced the addition of "2007 Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband in Asia -- Myanmar and Thailand" to its offerings.
Research and Markets noted that the report provides a comprehensive overview of the trends and developments in telecommunications, broadcasting and pay TV markets in Myanmar and Thailand. Subjects covered include:

Thailand's mobile market was approaching 40 million subscribers in early 2007. After more than six straight years of strong growth, the annual increase in the mobile subscriber numbers was still running at over 20 percent.

The 2006 year saw another surge in Thailand's broadband Internet market with subscriber growth running at an annual rate of around 100 percent. Interest in broadband services was finally picking up; but all this was happening from a relatively tiny base and broadband penetration remained low (1 percent penetration).

Despite a slowing of economic growth following the September 2006 coup, the post-coup government, after a number of missteps, was working hard to stimulate the economy, looking to such initiatives as free trade agreements.

In Myanmar, mobile services reportedly grew at a strong annual rate in excess of 100 percent in 2006, albeit from a tiny base. The subscriber numbers moved from 126,000 (0.3 percent penetration) in 2005 to 269,000 (6 percent penetration) in 2007. -Further information on this growth has been difficult to access. It is therefore hard to judge whether this growth pattern will continue.

From totally different perspectives both Thailand and Myanmar must seriously address regulatory reform. Thailand needs to work to get fresh momentum in its stalled reform processes; Myanmar needs to get some sort of reform process started. The latter has a long way to go.

Qld: Neew Queensland homes must meet water saving targets

Qld: Neew Queensland homes must meet water saving targets

BRISBANE, Dec 16 AAP - Water saving devices will be mandatory for all new houses to
be built in south-east Queensland.

From January 1 next year, housing plans will need to meet water saving targets before
they are granted building approval, Local Government and Planning Minister Andrew Fraser
said today.

New detached houses in the south-east corner must include enough water saving devices
to aim for a saving of 70 kilolitres a year, while terrace houses and townhouses must
aim to achieve savings of 42 kilolitres a year, Mr Fraser said.

These figures are based on the average water consumption in a home of 2.5 people.

Installing a 5,000 litre rainwater tank for detached houses or a 3,000 litre tank for
semi-detached houses would be an easy way to achieve these water savings, Mr Fraser said.

"Importantly there is a provision in parts of the state where these sorts of arrangements
are not deemed necessarily practical, (for example) areas with very low rainfall," Mr
Fraser said.

"Another flexibility in arrangements is that councils can certainly opt for higher
targets than these."

The water saving targets are part of the state government's strategy to ensure long-term
water supply, Mr Fraser said.

"Queensland is currently experiencing one of the worst droughts in our history," he said.

"That, combined with climate change and population growth, has placed our water resources
under enormous pressure."

What else shouldn't we believe about eBay?

By now you may know that Pierre Omidyar didn't really launch eBay to help his girlfriend collect PEZ dispensers, even though that charming anecdote has been recounted by the press only slightly less often than Alexander Graham Bell's entreaty to Mr. Watson.

The debunking of the PEZ myth received a lot of ink last week, although much of it was curiously missing any sense that the myth makers did anything wrong. . . . Seems as though that's an oversight worth correcting.

According to a new book titled The Perfect Store by Adam Cohen, the PEZ fib was invented by Mary Lou Song, eBay's first public relations manager and its third employee. She resorted to the fabrication reportedly because she was having a hard time generating interest in the company. Omidyar agreed to go along with the ruse, accounts of which found its way into countless stories about the Internet's most successful auction site.

Omidyar acknowledged to the author that the PEZ story had been "romanticized." And last week an eBay spokesman told the Associated Press it had been "slightly blown out of proportion."

Of course, you might also call it a lie, but that word is so harsh.

"Deal with others the way you would have them deal with you," Omidyar wrote to the fledgling eBay user community in February 1996 when he was drumming up support for the site's vaunted Feedback Forum and code of ethics.

In other words, if you want to be trusted, be trustworthy.

That was sound advice, whether Omidyar always lived it or not.

He loves Netscape 7.0, but . . .

Sometimes the right hand doesn't know that the left hand went out and whipped up a fresh batch of code.

Witness this observation from James Gaskin, a member of the Network World Global Test Alliance who (outside of that role) recently put Netscape's newest browser through its paces.

"Being a Netscape fan, I downloaded the Netscape 7.0 code and liked it enough to make it my primary browser," Gaskin says. "So far, the only site I've tried that chokes on the new code is AOL Anywhere's main screen right after login."

"Does that make any sense at all?" Gaskin asks.

Nope.

"Could anyone at AOL possibly talk to anyone at Netscape?"

You might think so, given that they are one and the same corporate entity, thanks to AOL's purchase of Netscape for more than $160 billion in late 1999.

Glitches happen, of course, and it would be a mistake to read too much into this one. However, this type of thing does seem all the more common in an age where business barons slap merger deals together with bankers and lawyers, paying little heed to how the parts are going to fit later on.

More proof the rich aren't like the rest of us

Get a load of this subject line on an e-mail sent to gauge my interest in a recent e-commerce study by Jupiter Media Metrix: "Affluent Shoppers Will Spend The Most Online."

Do tell. . . . What might possibly account for such a phenomenon?

Might a disproportionate percentage of the rich have broadband in their homes and thus face fewer obstacles than the hoi polloi when shopping the 'Net?

Might more of the wealthy have high-powered jobs that leave them tied to their desks past closing time at the malls and thus no option but to shop online?

Or - and I realize this is a stretch - could it have something to do with the fact that affluent have more money than the rest of us?

Rich and poor alike should direct comments to buzz@nww.com.

(Amex: MRM), a leader in the design and manufacture of RF Microwave components, assemblies and Micro-Multifunction (MMFM(R)) Modules, today announced that it has been selected by Astrium (formerly Matra Marconi Space) to provide a critical low-frequency, highly integrated, redundant distribution network for system clocks in the digital signal processors on board the three Inmarsat I-4 satellites being built by Astrium.

According to the announcement by Mason N. Carter, Chairman and CEO, Merrimac has received an initial order from Astrium and its partners. The Company projects this and future orders to be over $1MM in 2001. Additionally, Merrimac has initiated discussions with Astrium for future significant orders on the same program.

The Inmarsat I-4 program is the largest commercial contract ever awarded to Matra Marconi Space and the first for Astrium. The satellites will enable Inmarsat to launch a Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service planned for 2004, which will permit users of notebook computers and handheld devices to benefit from data rates of up to 432 kbit/s from virtually any land mass in the world via a satellite terminal.

Mason N. Carter commented, "This contract is especially exciting to our Company because it affirms our strong heritage in the commercial satellite market. While we continue to make great strides in meeting the growing demands of our wireless infrastructure customers, we continue to support our defense and satcom customers. This contract validates our view that significant market opportunities exist in the commercial satellite market and, with the increased use of the Internet as a communications medium, we have positioned the Company to take advantage of these opportunities. As technology advances, so does Merrimac's ability to effectively compete in this marketplace and ultimately to increase the profitability of the Company through our expertise in the industry."

Carter added, "Over the years, we have worked closely with Matra Marconi Space on various commercial and defense programs and look forward to providing critical value-added integrated solutions. By bringing together the space division of DaimlerChrysler's German aerospace unit DASA and Matra Marconi Space (owned 50:50 by Britain's BAE Systems and France's Aerospatiale Matra), Astrium has positioned itself as Europe's leading space company, and we look forward to continuing our long-term relationship."

Mr. Michael Le Moine, Astrium's Inmarsat I-4 Project Manager, commented, "We are extremely pleased to continue our long association with Merrimac. Inmarsat I-4 is a demanding task, a very large spacecraft with a highly sophisticated payload centered on this, our own, advanced digital signal processor. We rely heavily on our suppliers to provide high quality products to a tight schedule and trust that Merrimac will meet all our expectations."

INTERNET.

Ad revenues will continue to rise sharply as the medium evolves, and new ad forms and sponsorships develop.

Online advertising revenues are generally expected to keep soaring in 1999, ranging from $2.3 billion to nearly $3 billion, industry experts estimate.

Forrester Research foresees online ad revenues roughly doubling each year through 2000, with the rate of growth starting to slow down a bit after that in terms of absolute dollars. Relative to TV dollars, it's not big money yet, but it's growing fast from a paltry $550 million in ad revenues in 1997. Forrester estimates that Internet advertising will become a $2.3 billion U S industry this year, from $1.3 billion in 1998 It expects ad spending to go from $25 per person in 1998-double the rate spent m 1997-to $104 per Web surfer by 2003.

Jupiter Communications estimates 1998 Web ad revenues at $1.9 billion and projects a $2.9 billion ad market online in '99. The Internet Advertising Bureau basically agrees, pegging 1998 online ad revenues at about $2 billion, said Tom Hyland, chair, Price-waterhouse Coopers New Media Group (The IAB said it has no projection for 1999).

"Internet advertising is going to continue to grow You have many more people coming online and spending more time online," says Bill Bass, senior analyst for Forrester. He said the 1998 Christmas season will help prove that the Internet is fertile ground for retailers and other marketers. "Advertisers want to be as close to the point-of-sale as possible. As transactions shift online, that dramatically increases the value of online advertising".

But despite the robust state of the marketplace, Bass argues that the online landscape badly needs a makeover. For the most part, he said banner ads are becoming like so much wallpaper in cyberspace.

"Nobody remembers banner ads. They remember TV commercials," says Bass, who sees to a coming trend m more memorable ad devices.

The first blush of that is in so-called "pop-up ads" embedded in commercially oriented sites, such as special car company offers appearing in auto classified services online. And Forrester expects the automotive category will remain among the strongest online.

Gerry Boehme, senior vice president of strategy for Katz New Media, agrees that the current mode of Net advertising is fast becoming outmoded, and considers many banner ads "glorified outdoor" advertising Boehme believes the key to bringing Web advertising into the big time is to integrate it with more traditional on-air efforts. "A lot of the online advertising models are going to break down," says Boehme.

An opportunity exists for local TV stations that could sell links to advertisers on station sites, and encourage viewers to check those links out in on air promos, according to Boehme.

Evan Neufeld, Internet advertising analyst for Jupiter Communications, also anticipates the proliferation of integrated online-on-air media campaigns. And he also expects that an increasingly aggressive advertising environment online may reap the same consumer reaction registered to on-air ads in the past. "We're going to see more intrusive campaigns, Neufeld says, "and there'll be consumer backlash against full-screen, intrusive campaigns.

Forrester expects to see more advertisers buying into sponsorships online sponsoring proscribed content areas rather than simply posting their banners because banner ads just aren't generating click-through rates that justify current ad rates. "Sponsorships of a section is not a commodity," Forrester says.

"There's nothing you can compare that to," says Bill Bass. "But a banner ad is a banner ad is a banner ad".

Where banner ads do exist, Bass predicts we'll see more utility built in, citing the example of a recent Scope mouthwash promo, enabling PC users to send e-mail "kisses" in cyberspace.

Along with the automotive category, Forrester figures the hot categories online in '99 will include anything having to do with technology, and also financial services and telecommunications. "If you conceive of the Internet as an atomic explosion, there are some companies coming in at ground zero that are affected immediately,". Bass says, pointing to the growing popularity of shopping for stocks and cars online.

While commercial activity online continues to be centered in the U S 30% of Internet traffic now comes from abroad, with companies such as Yahoo and Amazon com now global brands. Forrester expects that to become an increasingly bigger part of the picture, with advertising from international sources to add $1 billion to the online pie by 2000.

New Medical Internet Research Study Findings Recently Were Reported by Researchers at University of Michigan.

"Distrust in the Internet as a source of health information remains common among older adults. The influence of this distrust on Internet use for health-related purposes, however, is unclear," investigators in Ann Arbor, United States report (see also Medical Internet Research).

"The objective of our study was to explore how older adults' trust in the Internet influences their online health-related activities, and to identify potential targets for improving health-related Internet resources for older adults. Data were obtained from a nationally representative, random digit-dial telephone survey of 1450 adults 50 years of age and older in the United States. A model was developed to conceptualize the hypothesized relationships among individual characteristics, distrust, and avoidance of the Internet as a health resource. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine the association between trust in online health information and use of the Internet for health-related purposes. Additional multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify the key characteristics associated with trust in online health information, adding sequentially the variables hypothesized to account for distrust among older adults: sociodemographic and health characteristics, inexperience and technical difficulties with the Internet, negative feelings toward the Internet, and lack of awareness about the sources providing the health information found online. The mean (SD) age of the study population was 63.7 (10.6) years. Of the 823 (56.8%) Internet users, 628 (76.3%) reported using the Internet as a health resource. Trust in the Internet as a source of health information was associated with using the Internet for a number of health activities, including searching for information about a specific health condition (adjusted OR 4.43, P<.001), purchasing prescription drugs (adjusted OR 2.61, P= .03), and talking with a health care provider about information found online (adjusted OR 2.54, P = .002). Older adults (age = 65 years) were less likely to trust the Internet as a source of health information (OR 0.63, P = .04), even after adjusting for other sociodemographic characteristics and health and function. This age effect was only slightly attenuated (adjusted OR 0.69, P = .13) after adjusting for inexperience and technical difficulties with the Internet, but it disappeared entirely (adjusted OR 0.96, P = .91) after adjusting for other hypothesized contributors to distrust (including finding the Internet confusing because it provides ''too much information,'' and lacking awareness about the source providing health information found online)," wrote D.M. Zulman and colleagues, University of Michigan.

The researchers concluded: "Website design features that clearly identify the source and credibility of information and minimize confusion may build trust among older adults and offer an opportunity to increase the utility of the Internet a."

Zulman and colleagues published their study in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (Trust in the Internet as a Health Resource Among Older Adults: Analysis of Data from a Nationally Representative Survey. Journal of Medical Internet Research, 2011;13(1):202-211).

iPhone Users Being Watched: Long Track Record and Nowhere to Hide.

Moscow, Russia (PRWEB) April 29, 2011

The recent discovery on how Apple tracks the location of its users is just the beginning. iPhone and iPad have a long track record of spying on their users. These threats, while sparkling less buzz with the Internet community, were discovered much earlier than the discovery of the notorious consolidated.db file in iOS 4. Oxygen Software reveals the results of its discovery.

The recent buzz about the geolocation cache is not, in fact, a recent discovery. The issue dates more than six months back, and is well-known to the forensic community. Developers of various forensic solutions including Oxygen Forensic Suite were able to access that file from the device and present it to the reviewer.

The Issue with "consolidated.db"

The file itself first appeared in iOS 4 last year. Information about user waypoints based on GPS data, cell tower signal data and the location of known Wi-Fi access points is being logged in the consolidated.db file. The accuracy of geolocation coordinates detected by the iPhone device depends on many parameters including the source of information, signal strength, as well as the time the user stays in one place. The longer the user stays in, the more records from various data sources will be added to the list, and the more precisely the user's location can be determined. By using dedicated software such as Oxygen Forensic Suite 2011, one can map and visualize all the places visited by the user.

Protecting Oneself from Being Tracked

The solution is seemingly easy. Simply disabling the Location Services option in the device keeps the tracking file empty, and iPhone does not attempt to determine user's location at any time. As with any privacy protection option, disabling Location Services deprives users of being able to look up for nearby facilities.

However, disabling the Location Services option is still not a viable solution for the privacy purists.

No Protection Still

If an iPhone gets into hands of forensic experts, they can retrieve the list of user's geographic locations based on other sources of information. For example, since early 2010, Apple devices keep a time-stamped log of Wi-Fi access points, which by itself is a pretty good hint on the user's location. And even if that option is disabled, there are still plenty of others to discover.

TEN OF 2010; MOVIES.(Features)

Byline: DAVID EDWARDS

1. TOY STORY 3

Buzz, Woody and Jessie returned for their greatest adventure yet in Pixar's hilarious, heartbreaking and hugely profitable toon. One of those rare films effortlessly able to entertain the child in us all, and the film of 2010 by many a mile.

2. THE MILLENNIUM TRILOGY

Stieg Larsson's novels were turned into nerve-shredding movies that hit multiplexes like a smack in the face this year. Beginning with the electrifying Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and concluding with the absorbing Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, these were uncompromising thrillers.

3. THE SOCIAL NETWORK

While the subject matter - the internet - was hardly sexy, David Fincher's look at the founding of Facebook proved to be a highlyentertaining character study. With plenty to say about the ups and downs of fame, it's a movie to be enjoyed time and again.

4. THE ROAD

Cormac McCarthy's bleak drama, set in America after the Apocalypse, isn't a feelgood movie, but a palpable sense of menace plus performances from Viggo Mortensen and young Kodi Smit-McPhee made it a road worth travelling.

5. ANOTHER YEAR

Brit director Mike Leigh delivered one of the films of his career with a painfully sad look at the neurotic friends of a happilymarried couple. It also featured a striking performance from Lesley Manville.

6. INCEPTION

Following the acclaimed Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan turned his attention to a group of dream infiltrators in a mind-bendingly clever action film. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cottilard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Inception was this year's thinking man's blockbuster.

7. THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT

Annette Bening and Julianne Moore played a same-sex couple whose kids decide to track down their donor-dad with amusing, if painful, consequences for everyone. A heartwarming comedy. Few could have thought that updating the 1984 original was a good idea, yet Will Smith and Jackie Chan somehow pulled it out of the bag to deliver one of the most gloriously entertaining movies you'll see.

9. KICK-ASS

Would-be superheroes took on Mark Strong's crime boss in a brilliantly absurd black comedy featuring a truckload of violence and bad language, some of it delivered by an 11-year-old girl. Not just the best superhero movie of the year, but perhaps the most talked-about superhero movie ever.

10. CYRUS

Brothers Mark and Jay Duplass came up with a neat comedy about a middleaged man whose relationship with a new woman is put to the test by her controlling son.A sheer delight.

e-Net Inc. Issues Statement Regarding Share Price And Activity

GERMANTOWN, Md., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- e-Net Inc. (Nasdaq: ETEL) today issued a statement regarding the recent price decline and increased trading activity in the shares of its common stock, responding to numerous requests from its shareholders.

-- The Company said it believed the trading activity is largely a matter

of stock market dynamics. Among the factors that the Company believes

may influence trading in its stock are the relatively small number of

shares available for sale, the opinions of equity research analysts,

and the registration of approximately 1 million securities primarily

associated with the previously announced April 1998 private placement

of common shares. This Registration Statement on SEC Form SB-2A was

declared effective by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday,

September 4, 1998, and contains a complete and current statement of the

Company's business, operations, and financial and other matters.

-- The Company also cited the recent overall decline in the stock market

and, more specifically, the decline in the value of shares of companies

involved in the Internet, especially those involved in Internet

telephony, as other possible contributing reasons for the recent

trading activity. The Company said it is still in the early stage of

development, and thus the Company believes that its valuation has been

based on expectations rather than its current fundamentals. The

Company said that it will not comment on matters of stock market

dynamics, but will continue to focus on, and issue appropriate

announcements that relate to, the core of the company's activities: the

development, production, marketing and sale of technology that allows

voice communications to be transmitted over data networks.

-- The Company said that it remains optimistic about the quality and value

of its technology and the prospects that a substantial market will

emerge for that technology. The Company said that it has consistently

declined to make any projections as to revenues or earnings because

both the technology and the market are still in the process of

emerging. In this context, the Company believes that any attempt to

make public projections would put the Company's credibility at risk.

-- The Company re-articulated its former and current priorities. It said

that its first priority was to develop its technology, protect its

intellectual property, create and release products based on its

technology, and enter into relationships with other companies to

advance those goals. Its second priority was to improve its financial

condition with more capital. The Company said it has addressed both

priorities in a way it considers appropriate for its current stage of

growth, and that it currently has a strong cash position and no debt as

reflected in its public filings. It also said that coincident with the

release of its results for the quarter ended March 31, 1998, and again

at the time it announced results for the quarter ended June 30, 1998,

it clearly identified the ramp-up of sales as its most important

priority, and that it continues to work aggressively in that regard.
